Escape

Darkness climbs over my face

Everyone stares with unblinking eyes

I cannot escape their false embrace

I cannot escape the unending lies. 

They all want more of me than I have to give

The pressure of the world crushes my bone

I only have one life to live

And that life has been spent alone.

Understanding has never been here

I cannot do it on my own

So when I find I feel a tear

I grab my pencil and enter the zone.

I escape into words

And they are my home

I dream of inhibitionless birds

And allow my mind to roam

So when I fear the stress of the world around me

Or no one is there to hear my cries

I tell someone who always listens intently 

And that paper never lies.
