Escape the Expectations
Poetry to me is a way to show love,
It’s a place that my head and my heart dare dream of.
The simplicity of the words
Written on a single page
Gives me hope that last days upon days.
Hope of a world that will change within time,
Because now in this world
Life is not mine.
I glance upon my society as a whole,
Where expectations are to live a life other than my own.
To be the girl on the cover of magazines
Other than the girl I wish to be.
But with my poetry, my rhymes and everything in between
I show them I’m just an average shy little teen.
I show them they’re wrong and how I stand tall.
I will not give up, I won’t let myself fall.
I can be who I want with the pen in my hand,
Sometimes I believe it’s my only real friend.
It taught me love, hope, faith and how to fear,
and I’ll never forget that it’s always near.
For when I write my life is complete
My hands shake, my heart skips a beat.
This life I live on paper, is a life I wish to achieve,
Where my dreams are within reach, and I can be the real me.
The me that smiles, that laughs all the time.
I know I can do it, the dream is all mine.
It’s within my reach I feel it in my bones,
I warn you though, I’m scared to chase it alone.
I’m scared of a lot but one thing is true
I’ll never lie about myself to you.
Because the only way I feel safe and sound
Is with my pen in my hand and inspiration all around.
