Escaping my Shadows

In a garden,

I envy a beautiful red rose blooming.

I am overlooked by the sun that shines over all.

When is it my turn?

My name is called.

I want to stand up, but I fear the thorns beside me.

I hide my falling petals behind a smiling appearance.

Waiting to be picked, I am alone in the garden.

The vines I created wrap around me and trap me.

I am stuck.

Night comes.

Darkness surrounds me.

Where is my light?

I feel myself falling to the ground,

When the fallen petals in between the thorns call out to me.

I reach out, pushing the thorns away.

I feel no pain, but joy.

Finding my petals, I am alive.

I piece myself together, one petal at a time.

My light is within me.

My life is within me.

I  grow and stand tall, awaiting the garden before me.
