Escapism

I want to go on a road trip

But not just any kind

I want to go on an adventure

Our world defined

I want to start on the east coast with the sunrise

And end on the west coast with the sunset

I want to stop at all those weird places on the way

And take the strange old highways

That once were the veins bringing lifeblood to our cities

But are now simply the capillaries connecting newer, bigger roads

That take you there so much faster

Let’s take our time

And forget modernity

Find ourselves in uncertainty

Turn the music up

And stop just to look at the stars

Watch the moon as it follows the cars

And chronicle every step of the way

In pictures

And notes on napkins

And memories

And little things

We’ll drive all night

Or sometimes all day

Let’s just go

And get away
