A poem is-

nothing.

Why does a poem matter?

Because a poem is a piece of the self

Even a comical limerick

Yes,

It probably doesn’t provide any greater insight into the human condition

But it also does

Without any prompting for introspection

we realise what makes us laugh

For such reasons

a poet carries a heavy responsibility.

Emotions are a tool,

and when misused there can be no guaranteed results

A poem can be written for anyone

Even if it was only meant for oneself

Often times emotions cannot

Coherently convert into an inner monologue

Only vaguely related words written with such passion

that they gain meaning

Once my eighth grade English teacher truly opened up the world of poetry

I have stuck with it

Even if not always consistently

But if I needed poetry it was there

That

is why poetry will always be important.

If not for me,

then someone else

This poem is about:
Our world
