The Essence of Hope

Drawn into the light By the beauty of your face Shelter from the night In your affectionate embrace Which calms me of the fright From the demons that give chase You’re the power of my might As my fears are laid to waste I’ve walked a trail of tears Burdens I’ve conveyed Experienced many fears Exposed and displayed Circumstances I held dear Have all been dismayed Took all this to see so clear The opportunities I’ve delayed A beacon of hope In a time of desperation Gives me the strength to cope, as well as, inspiration To then understand the scope of my own realization No matter how slippery the slope You’re my pulse of determination Storm clouds coming in Blustery winds of strife A new chapter does begin In this story of my life Product of a life of sin Have now come to light Sorrow washed away with gin On this dark, cold, lonely night Your beauty shines through The darkness of my soul Inspiration it drew From a never ending hole These past months I grew Into a more productive role The future, I no longer rue, A man now with a goal For what the future holds I do not have a clue The hand in life that I was doled Was the hand that made me blue Wishing that I could just fold And start all over new Or sum the courage, break the mold, and change my point of view
