Estranged From Nature

Children today are estranged from nature

Missing out the little experiences

Like skipping a stone across a pond

Or hearing the chirping cicadas on a summer day

Or feeling the sun's gentle warmth on your skin

Or drawing out shapes out of passing by clouds

Or playing in the mud and collecting bugs

That would make your older sister squirm and scream

Or finding a feather on the ground

That did not come from an arts & craft store

But they're too caught up in a virtual life

Couped up in a dark room

Illuminated by the dim glow of the computer screen

Dominated by technology

Can things to back to the way they were?

Where children were active

And still had a sense of adventure
