Even Gods Need Heroes
I used to spend my free time walking everywhere
Parks, city streets, beaches as the sun set.
Wandering; I didn’t know I was looking for answers
To questions I had yet to ask.
I walk these same streets over again, now searching in earnest
For the questions only gods can answer—
I tried to ask Jesus if His feet hurt from walking among us.
I haven’t heard from Him yet,
So I asked Hermes.
He told me that in modern times He can keep up
Since so few people take the first step.
He said that more people believe in the Flash than Him
And at times He does too,
Not because the hero is more godly,
But more human.
Even with divine speed, one cannot service everyone’s needs;
I was shocked that a god would speak like this,
Especially Hermes, but nevertheless I understood.
It is because of this, He said; that less people reach out to Him
And would rather connect to a wireless router—
I would like to believe that gods still have dial-up.
He said that the Flash made Him believe in goodness;
Despite his understanding that he cannot save everyone, he tries.
I felt as though something clicked in the god at this moment
And He truly understood
What it meant to be.
