"Even in the midst of"
" Even in the Midst of"
by CaneGo-Hines
From Harlem to Chicago
From Buffalo to Ohio
The hood was the place to go
Mom and Pops continue to grow
Income was low but pride was high
From bell-bottoms to Afro's
The inner city had it's own glow
Even in the midst of the devil's time
Self love wasn't a crime
What's yours is mine
Marvin's voice filled the streets
Black fists held high
Fearless soilders ready to die
Even in the midst of our own cry
We had a true fire inside
My first year was "75"
When white walls rolled wide
And ball players could walk outside
Even in the midst of the man's rage
The flyest cats filled their cage
Pushing dope and murders on the front page
Even in the midst of the corner was our stage
JB preached to be black and proud
Dizzy played wonderful and loud
Even in the midst of
My people never blended in a crowd
Unite to make it right
