Even though you don't feel the same way

If I try hard enough right now

I'll be able to imagine it clearly

The dim lights,

the damp grass.

The soft air,

even the way your hair fell to the right

no matter how many times you pushed it back.

I can even feel my emotions and excitement running through

though now it is covered with a lump in my throat

and a sheet of regret.

I remember the way your friends huddled arounf you for a minute

grinning and giggling like little girls

when they saw you talking to me.

yet what I remember most is when we were laying down on the marina

and our feet were up on the fence with our backs on cement

staring at the stars

but really gazing at eachother

and I've never seen someone look so flawless in the moonlight

I''ve never even seen someone I've loved in real life

Yet now that has changed

for I can't see you anymore.

I know it seems silly to be sad

but when I saw out of the corner of my eye you shifting closer to me

and when I closed my eyes but felt yours gazing at me

I knew that this was how love is supposed to be

And honestly I got attached really really easily.

yet now I know to be more careful,

and now I know what to look for.

And since I love you

I will not seek revenge for you losing interest.

Since I love you,

I will understand that the distance was the reason

and you are not trying to be mean.

And since I love you, I truly hope that we will stay friends

for you are a wonderful person

and you have given me a great example on what to look for.

Yoou treated me with kindness and respect

and you were not annoyed by what I did.

You did not ignore me,

and You did not smother me.

I will keep my memories of you in my back pocket

to think of, but not to be somber over.

and since I love you, I must say thank you

for setting great standards.
