Even the Waves Know Stillness

By the sea

in the winter

even the waves

know stillness.

But I

love storms

most of all.

For in the midst

of all the snow

there is a vast

nothingness.

The world seems

to hold its breath

and

everything is

tragically silent.

Snowflakes

the size of

fingertips

or

universes

fall,

the sun waits patiently.

The ocean stalls

in all its haste

and takes

a moment

to delicately add

each flake

to its collection.

I lay

on the ground

for an hour

or more

until my clothes

are soaked through

and

my face is frozen

in permanent content.

And my body too

becomes

the sea

and

the snow blessings fall

on me

as well.
