Even When I'm Gone
I am old and I am alone,
Watching the days pass until I can step into that heavenly throne.
I have lived through joys and sorrows.
I have watched doors open,
And I have watched some close.
The rose of my face has withered and gone,
The love of my life has also passed on.
This chair hurts my back.
I creak and I crack,
But I know that there is nothing in my life that I lack.
Looking back upon my years,
Through the joys and the fears.
I always had a joy in my heart,
Because of Jesus,
And the knowledge that we’d never part.
He was my constant and my source of strength
He was there though the joys and the tears.
He would whisper, “Don’t be afraid, for I am here,”
For when I accepted him as my lord and savior,
Nothing else held any answers.
I had peace that surrounded my soul,
From knowing I’d live with my savior for eternity as a whole.
I could get up and face the world every day,
Living like Jesus and holding onto the truth that his love would stay.
I was a sinner, dark and alone,
But Jesus came and saved me making me his own.
Jesus was what I could not live without,
For he held my heart without a doubt.
He gave my life meaning,
And was the rock to which I would cling.
If I look back upon my life as if it were a trail,
I walked along it not knowing what would entail.
But after Jesus hung on that cross and for me he bled,
I accepted him and he showed me every step that I should tread.
For even when the path terrified me,
He was always there, and he always led me to where I needed to be.
Now that I’m old I still have nothing to fear,
For my Jesus will soon take me to be with him forever when he does appear.
I will know my life held what I could not live without.
Even when I’m gone it will not have gone out,
For Jesus and his love lives for eternity,
And away from pain and sorrow I am free.
