An Evening Not Forgetten

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is ten years old, laying in her nightgown

          Sleeping beside her best friend

Sinful hands of someone's son bare her

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is twelve years old, laying in her sweats

Sleeping only when the nightmares leave her

Sins of someone else never left her

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is fourteen years old, and can't eat

Sleeping only with the help of pills

Sins of Satan, she could never move on from

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is sixteen years old, and still hasn't told a soul

Sleeping with anyone who can numb her pain

Sinful actions still haunt her, even when she sleeps

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is eighteen years old, and just graduated high school

Sleeping only as a result of heavy drinking

Sins of someone she trusted lures her habits

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is nineteen years old, and cannot stop the next man

Sleeping easily as she surfaces for help

Shouting to anyone that will listen, the sins that were done to her

This is an evening I will not forget.

She is twenty years old, and forgives herself for what she could not stop

        Sleeping peacefully and wonderfully

Sins of someone else washed away by the hands of God

This is an evening I will not forget.

         She is invincible and fearless

         Sleeping on her own

Sinful actions of someone else driving her forward

This is an evening I will not forget.
