Every Flower Has Its Thorns

I saw you as a ray of sun, a spotlight showering me with light and love

I saw you as the clearest sky, an opening to the heavens above

You were my fire to keep me warm and lead the way

You were my wings, to help me soar and forget my pain

I saw you as an ocean, a powerful wave and a gentle tide

I saw you as a treetop, a balcony from which I can fly

You were my star for I knew you were always there for me

You were my mountain for I could lean on you when I was weak

I saw only your beauty

Heard only your sweet voice

I felt only your loving touch

Spoke only of our endless joy

But I couldn’t see the betrayal in your smile

Couldn’t hear the emptiness in your promises

I couldn’t feel the coldness of your hands

Couldn’t speak of my growing uneasiness

I trusted you

But you were leading me to my demise

I put all my hopes and dreams into you

But you never saw me as more than your prize

And that horrible day I learned the truth

Is burned into my memory

And whenever I think of that day

It’s like a shattered glass making me bleed

It’s like you lit me on fire

And left me there to burn

My scars are still visible

And my feelings forever hurt

But I know now how cruel people can be

How they can trick you and mislead

You into thinking that they care.

At least now I know reality

On the surface, I see a lovely winter, full of snowy hills

But on the inside, there is ice that pierces you and kills

On the outside, I see a rose, gorgeous, in its prime

But every flower has its thorns that will stab you every time

So now I live every day with the scars you gave me

Every day I wait for someone better to save me

But if they come to me and try to be my friend

Thanks to you, I don’t think I can trust anyone again

Because I’ll always be scared that he’ll end up like you-

A lying, betraying, disgusting creature that doesn’t care and never knew

That now I live in agony, trying to forget how you took my love and ripped it apart

But I won’t ever forget my scars and most of all

My broken heart
