everyday your heart speaks

In the morning I wake up see your closed lids and calm face

I kiss your forehead ‘good morning’ and rest my head on your chest

Badump, badump, badump.

Just close my eyes for a moment, before it’s time to get up and go go go

I pack a light lunch and leave a note in yours

“Have a great day, I love you.”

I get ready quickly, turn the coffee pot on,

Before I hear your alarm go off.

I race to the bedroom door, see your hand reach your phone,

As you pull off the blanket and sit up.

You look up at me, and smile wide

So wide I see the crinkle at the corner of your eyes.

Your arms start to reach out, but I’m already there.

In seconds, my head is pressed against your chest once more.

Badump, badump, badump.

A heart that speaks to me alone

I pull away after moments, kiss your nose before you press me closer and ask to hear me.

I turn light pink, but stand up and smile.

I proudly recite my speech for the meeting today.

My eyes wander around the room before meeting yours,

Which are staring intently at me, listening to every word.

When I finish you smile, give me a few words of advice,

Before kissing my hand and getting up.

A glance at the clock shows it’s time to go,

I grab all my stuff and you walk me to the car

Still in your pajamas, but that’s all right.

A kiss goodbye, and you shut my car door.

Badump, badump, badump.

My heart soars as I drive off, with a last look in the rearview mirror.

The day goes on, with you on my mind.

A text on my phone reads

“Good luck, I love you.”

I finish the day, and hurry right home.

Cook dinner, your favorite, and wait for you to come.

A key in the lock and I’m right by the door,

Flowers in your hands but,

A huge smile as you drop your bag and pull me up into your arms.

Badump, badump, badump.

There’s trust, there’s smiles, there’s excitement,

Because I love you

And because you love me.

It’s time for dinner and we eat.

I talk about my day, you talk about yours.

We laugh, we disagree, we laugh some more.

You tell me a story, I ask for advice

We talk for hours about our worries and our lives.

We clean up together, dishes and trash.

The moon comes out, as we get our work done.

At night I close my eyes,

Listening to your heart beat in my ear as I fall asleep,

Badump, badump, badump.

Music to my ears alone,

Because I love you,

And I can’t wait for tomorrow.
