Everything

I stand on a street corner with a sign

that says “I need help, God Bless”

you look at me and think to yourself

they don’t need help, they need a job

so what if I was to tell you…

I have a job. It pays 8.00 an hour

I have a home, the rent is 650 a month

What if I was to tell you that my bills are more than

My income?

What if I was to tell you that I have no health insurance?

Yea, that’s right, in the country of everything is possible

A young woman like me, with a college degree

Doesn’t have insurance?

What if I was to tell you that I was denied for

Food stamps? Yea, I applied and yea they told me no.

Told me know because I have no dependents other than me

And unless I have a kid, I can kiss assistance good bye..

so I have a college degree, a job, but no money

I don’t  look like I’m poor but I am

Uncle Sam takes his cut from my check and

I gotta worry about how I’m going to eat

Just because I don’t look poor doesn’t mean I’m not.

While rich white men keep getting richer and fatter

I keep getting poorer and fatter too cuz

A mcdouble is only a dollar

What does this world want from me?

What do I have to do?

Keep working so the government

Can keep taking?

What more will it take from me?

I have no money

I have a job

I have no food

But I live in the country where everything is possible.
