Everything

Written in Free Verse

I think I was screaming

I could taste the flesh in my throat

I could see the bile on the ground

Eyes vacant, unseeing. Unblinking.

A face of no more than 25

I could feel my body shaking. My breath wavering.

It had happened in an instant, a blink of an eye

Everything hurts.

Everything moves.

Everything is everything.

I looked up, my head heavy

The others were roaring, screaming.

Fear? Excitement? Rage?

Yes. No. What did it matter?

It’s all too loud and too quiet.

It had happened in an instant, a simple movement

Behind me, I didn’t know. Or care. Or I did.

I felt myself slip. The weight of my head spread to my body.

I looked up, understanding, filling my mind.

Everything is nothing.
