Everything Is Awesome

Everything is awesome

and I know that sounds trite

because not everything is awesome,

with war, famine, discrimination, and corruption

shrouding our beautiful planet

in a fog of evil so thick

you could choke on it.

But a lot of things are awesome

when you really stop to think about it.

Dust off your rose colored glasses,

fuse the shattered lenses back together

with love and hope and wishes on birthdays,

tape up the frames,

and see the world as it was meant to be seen,

not as you've been told you're supposed to see it.

See the everyday, commonplace beauty all around you,

appreciating its glory

because beauty is fleeting,

so perfectly, tragically fleeting,

and it's important to appreciate what you have

when you have it.

Here is a list of things that are awesome.

  • Sushi
  • Rosebuds on the first day of summer
  • A cloudless, perfectly blue sky
  • The sound of raindrops on the window, lulling me to sleep
  • Marshmallows melting in hot chocolate
  • The smell of a new book
  • Vanilla incense

And I know what you're thinking,

"How can this cynic tell me about

beauty

love

power?"

I don't know, but I have seen hatred,

and I have seen

vengeance,

devastation,

greed,

obsession,

lust,

corruption,

wrath,

and sin

And I know beauty.

According to my mother's dictionary,

the word awesome has two definitions.

One:

extremely good, excellent,

and Two:

extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear.

We are not just extremely good, or excellent. We are impressive, we are daunting, we  inspire great admiration. We are awesome.
