Everything Happens for a Reason
Whistling wind, crashing waves, buzzing telephone lines, soldiers marching.
A world like this can seem so
harsh.
In a world where
people are arrested for race,
politicians show us they have more than one face,
pretty teenage girls are told to carry around a can of mace,
I need to believe
it is all for a reason.
Ringing alarms, chirping birds, gurgling coffeemaker, eyes
opening.
A person wonders whether it is now or
then.
In a world where
college costs more than a car,
children have a shorter attention span by far,
corporations have been constantly lowering the bar,
I need to believe
it is all for a reason.
Honking horns, vibrating phones, humming supermarket lights, legs
walking.
A child now thinks that to text a person is to
talk.
In a world where
discussing face to face seems strange,
distinguished women are encouraged not to look their age,
denizens of every country are coming together to try to make change,
I need to believe
it is all for a reason.
Melting glaciers, exploding grenades, speeding buses, drones soaring.
Disappearing species, leaving friends, failing plans, days ending.
Blazing sun, leaves falling.
Cycling thought, lungs exhaling.
Grandpa passing.
I need to know
it is
all
for a reason.
