Everything is Lovely
Summer is over, and fall has arrived
The leaves begin to change color
And I am surrounded by hues of red, orange, gold
Vibrant under the radiance of the sun
"Everything is lovely” I say with a smile
The temperature drops
The gentle breezes become biting winds
And though the sun shines
It’s light offers no warmth to my frozen fingers
“Everything is lovely” I say through chattering teeth
The leaves turn brown, and create a blanket for the earth
Which has become as cold and bare as the naked trees
The sun stops coming out as much
And the gray world craves the heat it used to bring
“Everything is lovely” I say from under my own fortress of blankets
Snowflakes paint the world a pure white
Concealing any memory of the summer under a sheet of ice
Sucking the life and warmth out of everything that is beautiful
But the sun does nothing, it only watches from a distance
“Everything is… dark” I say as I search for it in vain
