everything you told us we couldn't

We are built from everything

you told us we couldn’t be.

You told us we couldn’t be loud

so we screamed in silence and

everyone heard.

You told us we couldn’t matter.

We believed you then decided

fuck you

and made ourselves matter.

You told us we couldn’t change the world

so we fought and we are.

You told us we couldn’t be ourselves

so we made flags to fly and labels

if we wanted them for ourselves.

We are lgbtqia and racially diverse

and everything you never let us be.

You said

we couldn’t

we couldn’t

we couldn’t

so

we did

we did

we did.
