The Evolution of Ignorance
The crack:
the crack of the whip across bare backs
the rocks in the pipes that kill off blacks
The bark:
the bark of the trees, dark like me
saw my brothers hang in death's lull
the bark of the dogs, in Birmingham
sent out by Raging Bull
The problem:
the problem is you, it couldn't be me, the problem must be Felipe down the street
we all are just looking for someone to blame
because at that point we can hide from our shame
The struggle:
unable to vote, unable to read, unable to be treated like a human being
now able to learn and even to lead
and yet we still struggle to be heard and be seen
