Evolutionary Biology

Why would anyone want to be an evolutionary biologist, what could you possibly do?

I could read from the pages of the Epic of Life or I could teach others how to do the same.

I could be the next Charles Darwin and turn the world on its head with a book,

Yet what ever I do, I know I'll be happy.

Eager, nervous the students come and take their seats,

do they know that they are entering a lens that cuts through the veil of time?

Our past, our present, our future,

they are learning this from me, a professor of evolutionary biology.

I've taken time from my research into the labyrinth of secrets that is history,

to teach these students a little about my favorite mystery.

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, I'm just Dr. Safawi,

Why do I do this? Because I love it.

This love, like the organisms I study, has evolved,

natural selection of passion has set me on this trek.

I only hope that, with a little poking and proding of the mind,

my students will evolve the same passion that is mine.
