Examination

I sit down in my desk,

Pits sweating, fingers freeze.

I look down at my paper.

English? Or Chinese?

Breathing, read the question.

Read it slowly, sound it out.

Pick a letter, cross your fingers;

Hold the pencil, fill it out.

Bubble it in, no wait, erase.

Second-guessing.

Daydream a bit.

See the time, start stressing.

Sharpen the pencil,

Take a drink,

Use the bathroom

Splash my face in the sink.

Ok, I’m ready.

No time to think.

Picking all the same letters.

Regretting that drink.

Time’s up!

Time? Where did it go?

Skribble the answers.

Why weren’t I a no-show?

Turning it in.

Walking back to my class.

At least now I’m done!

It’s over at last!
