An Exchange
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
I cry and weep silently.
I then laugh for I am alone.
I can cry loud and ugly.
I can cry as freely as I want.
But then I cry again,
For I am alone.
I maybe forever will remain as so.
The waves try to calm me down.
They crash and they hush me.
I apologize to them.
I know I have made the mood
Incredibly sad and quite depressing.
Tears fall and stain the sand.
I say that I am sorry,
We all just met and here I am,
Showing that I am a mess and a fool.
But then I am crying again,
For I am alone on this island,
Will probably never be found,
And I will never say I love you
And he will never say it back to me.
I have never loved and been loved back
I always imagined the exchange,
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
His face was always a mystery.
Now I know it will remain as so.
I love my friends and I love my family,
But I have never had a love so great.
I will never have a love that is great.
I look across at the ocean.
“I love you.”
And I glance down at the sand.
“I love you too.”
