Exculpating him, Awaiting you

Poetry teaches me that it can be different because he won’t be you

It teaches me that my heart can one day only beat for you

He will only be a thought of the past, something like a flashback

You will be the future, a prince like from a fairytale

Poetry teaches me that pain will not last forever

That the burning he left in my chest can one day be filled instead with your reverence

It shows me that he was just a part of the side pieces

While you my dear, were the piece missing all along

Lastly, poetry has taught me the art of release

It reminds me that my love for him was only that of a dream

He was like an infection in my bloodstream,

With the idea of you in my future though, I can learn to release him

Cast him out of my mind because True love comes from more than just one side.
