I was coming as he was leaving

My feet push against the pavement

The back of His heels stick to concrete

And as he lays there,

he drifts farther   and     farther                      away

I stare

the Crimson pool that drowns the sidewalk kidnaps my gaze

Its waves rise

They lap over cracks

Overflow through the crevices

Scarlet drops splash onto my feet

A river of plasma and platelets flow into the tracks of my shoes

And each step leaves a mark

And each mark is redder than the last

And each step leaves more and more hope in the past

Because after I take one step

                                   then a second step

                                                      then a third

 His face began to materialize

his eyes rested open

 irises speaking to me

To leave hope on another block

Because there's no hope here anymore

His dying lips said

To leave your words on the corner

we have nothing else to say anymore

His open hands pleaded to me

To let go of my anger

Because being angry has no purpose anymore

Or at least that's what I think they said

I couldn't really hear

Over the cascading  of

Blood drops that were dripping off my feet

As I turned around

And the soul of my friend was tattooed onto the sole of my shoe
