On Expectation
The world is not a simple thing,
A place which has no cares,
It flows and twists and turns and moves,
With life it longs to share.
The wind can howl,
And tear down trees,
Or gently blow,
A loving breeze,
The waves can beckon,
And kiss the shore,
Or send ships sinking,
To the ocean floor,
The sun can shine,
With a gentle heat,
Or burn the faces,
Of those you meet,
A heart can be broken,
A heart can be shy,
A heart can be cold,
A heart can be kind,
The world is not a simple thing,
It changes every day,
One mustn't grumble at its faults,
But love it anyway.
