Expectations, girls who try to be normal can’t be

Even normal has its expectations

Models can’t have a normal lifestyle

They are all caught up in how they should look

They are starving themselves 

Staying on unhealthy diets 

Just for a photoshoot

That is going to be photoshopped to a “perfection”

Women in the 1950s to 1960s to now

Have expectations that don’t vary much

Wear makeup, have a flat stomach, and be happy

If you’re skinny, you’re anorexic they say

If you’re bigger boned, you’re fat

There is no happy medium

Society won’t allow women to be happy

Truly happy

The ads you see for weight loss diets 

“Take this pill, and you will be pretty again!”

Even though the money you’re making off that pill

Is sustaining YOU…

It’s tearing women apart from feeling self conscious 

Women see those ads and part of them is excited to change

The other part of these women feel ashamed at themselves for how they look currently

People take things differently

Some don’t come back normal

After seeing ads or posts about losing weight

Some end up so self conscious 

They end up on feeding tubes in hospitals 

Some die

That is what society is doing to our women

Society makes women end up hating themselves 

For who they naturally are

Women have a hard time wondering

If they should put on makeup

Before walking outside to get the mail

To feel so much pain and hatred towards yourself

It’s a shame

We all need to rewrite society's standards

Make people more accepting of others 

Because…

No matter your size, your looks,

You will always be you

You might as well embrace being you

Adding plastic to your body thinking it will help you will make you more physically and mentally unhealthy

Changing yourself to be other people's definitions

Of pretty is a waste of time

Be your own definition of pretty
