Expectations

I'm expected to be someone I'm not, Or at least to be someone better And when I'm out of line, I am criticized. My friends understand, and accept who I am They make me feel free, not confined to my mask Without them I would be lost. I try to be me, every day that I can Because society got it wrong when they said There is a perfect image we need to become. We can only LIVE, if we live as who we are, Not beneath the mask we are asked to wear And not by idolizing someone we are not. Why is being unique and special discouraged? That is how we are most beautiful As individuals. Different from everyone around us.
