Expedition

There is a golden bell

that hangs above my door

on an arm of steel

and a chain of rope

It’s designed to ring

when I open or close

the wood painted tan

with handle, too small for hole

and chips at the bottom

A mark where you kicked

Loud bang and a scream

Heavy steps in my sheets

The bell rang last night

I awoke from my dreams

of conversation on couch

to see you stand across carpet

I think you had something to say

but I could not hear through fan

Was it the same as my visions

of dancing sugarplums?
