The Expiration Date

Hello Dearest,

Listen to the way the trees whistle, honey.

It’s kind of crazy: the way the

Clouds and songbirds sing

Just for you. Here I

Am, astray and ready for whatever may

Find its path away.

The clouds are sparse and far away,

Blinking away like silent honey

Bees. Don’t dare look down babe. May

The seas scream and cry the

Way I do for you. I

Might just strike a match, letting these flames sing.

One last time, I’ll sing

Sailor tunes as we sail away

On our makeshift raft of driftwood I

Picked from my stormy shores. Honey,

I would take a thousand needles desperately over the

Hell that is coming this May.

But “what is coming this May?”

You may ask. It’s an ebony grandfather clock that will sing

A song of expiration. Time is ticking and the

Gaunt clock stoops above us; ready to take us away

To a forever we don’t yet know. Honey

Please, take this coat that I

Have worn since December. I

Will wait for you… dear god I will wait for you. May

You find fields of wheat and honey

And false forevers. But I’ll stand on your shores and sing

The wail of a siren, finding a way

To send you to lonely. Your love for me, the

Sun, will set on your pastures and the

Pastures will sink in ice. Little do you know, I

Have tamed nerve and tricks up my sleeve that will take you away

From your earth. May

The seas and winds at my fingers sing

Sweetly to you, and hum silent tunes of honey.

You know what, honey? I

Am going to make your time here worth forever. The clouds will sing

you away to sleep and caress your scalp with cotton. At least, until May.

With Love,

Hendrick
