Expression and Resilience

Poetry taught me many things

but the more important

was

to

express

what I'm feeling and why

To use ugly words if I felt like it

because not all things are

vast oceans and

sunflowers

To scream with font and

bleed with ink or lead

to describe how my veins run with tar

and my lungs are full

of honey

Poetry taught me

to live free among pages and words

in a world

where I

am trapped

by

fear

and pain
