Expression through Poetry

When one asks why write poetry? I say why breathe, eat and sleep? Poetry is something the world must keep Poetry is my water That hydrates me with enjoyment. Poetry allows me to rest because it does not make me study for a test. Poetry is my oxygen. This allows me to breathe by reliving all my tensions. Unfortunately poetry is something the world never mentions. Poetry is the only place where I could be me. Can’t you see? I may be black or white, But poetry gives me the power to fight. In a world of brutality, hatred and separation, Poetry does not know the scheme of dividing. It only knows the art of uniting. Regardless of race, gender or social class Poetry accepts us all. It allows me to be myself. In the eyes of poetry I’m just another teen trying to find “me” My thoughts, emotions and feelings can only be best expressed by poetry. Whether I am sad, happy or in pain, Through poetry I can gain self-awareness and self-respect. Without poetry, there’s no expression nor is there anymore truth. In a world where everyone Is trying to outshine one another, later in life personality-loss is what they discover. In this cruel world that we live Poetry is our only path of self-expression And poetry is my only true passion Without poetry, where else will I find myself? And my inner peace?
