Eyes Alone

His eyes were blue,

Like the sun-setting sky.

Above a stormy green ocean,

But I had to say goodbye.

My eyes were blue,

Like a cool forest night.

Without stars or distractions,

From the beauty in sight.

But love does not live in eyes alone.

Like when dusk turns to night,

We pretend to forget what we’ve known.

And life will go on,

We will meet many eyes.

Although it’s hard for me to forget,

Because I see him in the skies.

And now looking back I see my mistakes

I thought love was only what eyes could see.

They said we were perfect for each other, but all it takes.

Is one careful look at him and me,

And you'd find how incompatible two people could be.

Our love was built on words with no values,

The lies we would create because neither of us could see.

That we didn't know what love was because we were hiding behind screens.

When we were together good times were all that mattered,

Niether having the courage to say what had shattered,

Our confidence, our very beings to the core.

And now that I've accepted that it wasn't my fault,

I'm no longer searching the skies but rather my own heart.
