"In the Eyes of a Child"

In the eyes of a child you see sadness and pain All of my sunny days turn into storm and rain I walk a gloomy path but I'm searching for the light In the midst of the night I hope to make things right If you could see the blood that drains from eyes Words from the wise the new truth is a book of lies The veins that flow through my body have turned into ice You have one life to live if in sin you pay the price Black on black crime the love they have killed It would take a lifetime to fill the shoes my grandmother filled All of our ancestors who died so we could be free So we can be educated young people all for you and me Do we even appreciate it all I hear are complaints Adults that claim to be Christians but are everything in the streets except a saint They have high expectations for the new generation In the eyes of a child they have diminished God's creation It took me a while to understand my feelings were real You killed the old me and now I've to begin to live If only looks could kill I'd have been 6 feet under by now I tend to lose control and I don't even know how In the eyes of a child they say you don't know what love is Searching for my place called home like Dorothy from the wiz All I can do is think to myself and wonder why No one can understand the pain out of a child's eye
