The Eyes of a Child
Do you remember what it was like to be a child?
Being told that the elders know everything
Never to question what you were told because
Everything they told you was right
“Oh there are no monsters in the closet!”
“The dark isn’t scary!”
“It’s only your imagination”
“That’s just ridiculous!”
I see through the eyes of a child
I see the monsters chase after me in school
Outside
Even in my own house!
The monsters that call me weak, worthless, unwanted, useless
The evil beasts that bring me to the ground
Clawing away at my soul all that’s left is a thread of joy
Only to be ripped apart by the deceitful demons I once trusted with my life
These monsters that keep coming
Each wave more ruthless and colder than others
Disguising themselves as my friends and family
And unmasking to reveal the sick twisted ugly faces they were hiding
Destroying the kingdom we built
Dancing on the ruins
While my soul vanishes like footprints during a sandstorm
I see the darkness running
Chasing after people every second of every day
I’ve seen it swallow the ones I love without a hint of remorse
Consuming human souls that are struggling and suffering
Until suddenly they’re gone
It’s after me
It wants my soul, my heart, my mind
I run as fast as I can but the darkness catches up
I run in a race that I cannot win
Eventually it creeps up behind me
I can feel it at the back of my neck
It’s coming I can feel it
I can see it I swear it’s there
I’m running out of time
The light is fading
someone come save me
The world is getting hazy
I can’t beat it on my own
I need someone to
help
do you see it too?
do you see the monsters?
the darkness?
the evil?
do you see it consume the world just like me?
Maybe we are crazy
Insane
Weird
Psychopathic
Childish idiots
But the darkness will consume you
Just as it did to the others who didn’t believe in me
Who didn’t believe in the eyes of a child.
