The Eyes of Life

For the Everything Is Awesome Poetry Scholarship SLAM, I decided to write a poem about how life in general is awesome. It specifically explains my take on feminism and its effect on my perception of life.

It is amazing, being a woman that is.

I can see the world through flawless

Skin and ancient eyes hiding the true

Soul within.

These are owl eyes, the kind of

Ocular force that penetrates what

Is pellucid in broad daylight

As I gather the fragments of another's

Core.

I was born a female, the fruit of an everlasting

Bloom called Life.

Now, ever since I flashed my eyes on that

Thursday evening so long ago, I have basked

In the glory of all things girly.

I take great joy in beautifying my face with cosmetics, feeling

An immense wave of confidence and pride as I dance in

Three inch heels to the beat of a song called Life.

Rose petals may splatter on the floor, so what,

What can be lovelier than embracing femininity

Through the appreciation of flowers?

Rouge, lipstick, and stilettos are all very nice,

But what I cherish the most is being a lady

Of status, poise, and dignity.

Through the eyes of Life, being a powerful

Woman (as measured by intelligence,

Personality, charms, resilience, and

Resourcefulness) is in essence, amazing.

I will not cower or conform to The Realm

Of Underwhelming Standards. Society knows

That I am a female, and therefore take great

Pride in asserting my femininity for the world

To see.

For me, Life is enticing and wonderful because

I made it so by proving to the world how strong

Women can really be.
