Façades

Everywhere I turn: masks,

hiding faces.

Bruised, beaten, scarred,

trying to hide the pain.

But not me no!

I will not hide my experiences, my struggles

because they make me unique.

I will be open and honest,

because that is real.

I will be me,

because I am no one else.

It is time to strike down expectation

with acceptance.

Let us burn these wicked disguises

and breathe.
