Face the Darkness

The crinkle of an old book opening

Shining light splits the night.

While everyone else is sleeping

the world around me shines so bright.

Finally, the book is finished,

it is time for sleep.

I fear if I turn off the lights,

in shall the monsters creep.

It is finally time to face my fear.

I steel my soul to face the way

the darkness seeps so near,

around my bed to stay.

And with a flick, all is done

my eyes shut fast and tight

I know I have finally won

and have tamed the night.

Tomorrow is another day

in which I shall grow,

But tonight I have felt the way

a grown-up does. I know.
