facemask

how can you drown your demons?

if they know how to swim.

standing in the middle of the road

screaming but not a sound comes out;

is this madness or is it normal?

pondering my existence

if I left, would I be missed?

when it’s 2 a.m.

and I’m bawling out my eyes

who’s there for me?

no one, like they said they’d be

explaining how I feel is like

trying to explain why the sky is blue

it just is

but people don’t see

that behind my smile lies a broken soul so torn

not even the strongest glue could hold it together

and that’s what I can’t do.

I can’t hold it together

and I shut down and shut people out

because who would want to deal

with someone like me,

someone’s who broken

and doesn’t want to be fixed

because the voices tell me in my head

you belong here with us, you’re home

when I’m alone

the darkness is the only one who says hello

my only friend...

so every day I put on my mask and pretend

because it’s what gets me by

but I want someone to see

the real me

so I can finally make a new friend.
