The Fact of Fiction
Self-identification
How should I go about this?
I would like to say
“I’m Isaiah”
But that is merely a false identification
A meager attempt to distinguish myself from the rest
The truth is
I am not Isaiah
I am not black
I am not my gender
I am not a generalization
I am me
I am passionate
What I do does not define me
Nor the premises I was assigned at birth
These are merely organizational structures
Needed to calculate a worth
However vain
The attempt is still at work
But to me
Worth is a concept similar to beauty
Though it can never truly be calculated
Worth is not meant to be calculated
Worth is simply perception
And I have my current perception
And a long time ago, I had a concept
I knew what I wanted then
And I know what I want now
The popular kid
The jock
The one at the top bid
The one who people consider to rock
Desires of the past long since dead
Now I desire to delve
In bliss when I lay my head
I had an idea
That was my pursuit
Know I have knowledge
And have put on the proper suit
The football player never came
The jazz will play
I am passionate
And passionate I will stay.
