Fading Love

If all love fades, then love is but a rose;

Ever blooming ‘till the day it decays

At first a seed, hidden below the ground

Apprehensive of the journey to come--

Surface nears, protrusion is imminent!

The first bud emerges, so gracefully

The gentle spring breeze tickles the soft petals

Euphoric aromas clog the senses

Eyes closed, a rose’s beauty goes unmatched

Eyes closed, roses’ allure intoxicates

Children frolic in a bed of roses

Oblivious to the thorns underneath

Winter approaches, the first petal falls;

Vibrancy turns fleeting as life dwindles

Last petal drops, never to be retrieved

The rose is lost like the love that once was
