Fading Past, Forever Future
My memory began
As little as four.
I could hop on one foot
And jump out the door.
I sat up in my seat,
But slept in the car.
No fuss came from me;
Always quiet, by far.
Not much of this changed,
The older I grew.
I was still quite the same.
There was nothing new.
I learned there was more
Than just my brother and I.
Other kids my own age,
Every color and size.
Of course some were good
And others were bad.
They are what helped me discover
That I grew easily mad.
It was sixth grade I think
When I began karate.
It taught me to fight,
So I broke a kid's knee.
My strength gave me power
Over my peer
And my speed was something
That other kids feared.
I made all the wrong friends,
Who made it nothing but worse.
Even a boy entered my life
Who taught me to curse!
Nothing good came from me,
I was such a wreck.
To start this so young,
Was my parent's pain in the neck.
We soon moved away,
Far from this place
And I made new friends
Who put smiles on my face.
Still friendships I cherish
To this very day.
Although we don't talk,
They're just too far away.
There's not much control -
When moving place to place -
Of the people you care for.
Life becomes a race.
A hurry to settle,
And a hurry to leave.
Too much to take in
With little room to breathe.
So was my new life
With it's ups and downs,
But at least that little girl
Did not stick around.
She taught me what not to do
And who not to be.
It wasn't until she died off
That I truly felt free.
I gained better friends,
Ones that were fair.
All that boy did,
Was grow out his hair.
I've grown into my feet
And put the past in the past.
I'm ready to move on,
It's all happening so fast!
College is inching near,
I can see it, it's coming.
We've made it, my friends!
It's all so mind-numbing
To think that soon
I'll be on my own.
It's all so exciting!
And again, my mind? BLOWN.
I've come so far,
And still have far to go.
So for now, goodbye and good luck,
It's my future that it's time to know.
