I spent my life after I came out 

And I found friends who were as gay as me
 

Many of us often were called "faggots"

At one point, we tried to reclaim the word

Use it as a term of endearment rather than a slur.

But when someone called their friend a faggot

And exclaimed "What? I'm calling him a bundle of sticks!"

I seethed.

Do you know where the word faggot came from?
Do you know why gays are called "bundles of sticks"?

During the witch trials

When they would tie the witches to the stakes 
And burn them alive

They would throw homosexuals towards the bottom

And use them as kindling.

Homosexuals were not humans.

They were not animals.

They were objects.

They were disposable.

They were kindling.

After that day, I stopped using the word faggot.

Ever.

Some words cannot be reclaimed.
