Fail to Realize
What people fail to realize…
I’m a young woman trying to make it in life
Although I am young does not mean I’m not wise
In fact, I’m wiser than most
Just trying to get by
Yes, I’ve made mistakes
But I consider them lessons learned
Because I refuse
To make the same mistake twice
People fail to realize…
I am Human too
I bleed the same red blood they bleed
Fighting to reach the American Dream
Many say it’s all in my imagination
And I’m going to be another statistic…
Yet, people fail to realize…
I make the statistic;
Never will I fall under one!
People fail to realize…
That life isn’t a black and white picture
It has areas of shaded gray!
People fail to realize…
The past is what use to be
Not how things are now!
Yes, I must admit that over time
I have changed
I use to live with hatred and sorrow in my soul
Weeping every night
Hoping and praying the melancholy feeling
To one day fade away!
People failed to realize…
I was dying inside
Never wanted to face my fears.
People fail to realize…
I was running and running
But I was running in place
So, I gave up trying to win the race.
People fail to realize…
Even the littlest things can cause pain
Even words can cut deep showing that
So, many different types of aches can be hidden within.
People fail to realize…
That life isn’t a game.
You can’t pause it then resume when ready to play;
It simply keeps on going!
People fail to realize…
That it’s best to be hurt with the truth
Than comforted with lies
People fail to realize…
That love and trust is hard to gain
Yet, both easily can be lost
With a blink of the eye
People fail to realize…
I prayed for the faith that was once gone
To resurrect and give me peace again
Longing to be free for the shackles I was in
People fail to realize…
Through all the agony
I managed to cry tears of joy
For being blessed today in my present
Not holding the past accountable for my future!
