Fairy Tale

I am a princess

Privileged and poised

What does it take for me

to strive to be a queen?

Surrounded by high walls of concrete

Guarded by an overprotective dragon

I call mother

High-strung and proud

Most see her as an intimidating beast

But I see her as someone I aspire to be

She charges through challenges as hard as her tough skin

Armor that will suit me soon

For she teaches me

I can go beyond the barriers she built

To soar higher than her wings can ever take her

So that one day

I can be an independent queen

One worthy of a fairytale
