Fairydust
My mind is
Overgrown, overflowing
With underbrush, underwood;
My mind is
Filled, brim spilling
With leaves, roses and seeds.
Roadways and metal
And molds and numbers
Have rusted and faded.
Being the best
Is not being number one
It’s not being
As good as the rest
Either.
These walls we have built
These paths we have set
Can easily be
Washed away by the sea
Broken by rock
Eroded by air
Melted by heat.
Worth isn’t in
Grades or coins
Looks or glory.
Worth is
In a fairytale.
Worth is in
Sun-dipped smiles
Old shoes
Paperback books
Castles and valleys.
Worth is
Inside sing alongs
Inside slow dances
Inside loving life.
Life
Is in magic
And magic is real
Because it’s something you feel.
