Faith

I don’t understand religion. I don’t understand God. Love thy neighbor, But only if he thinks like you, Only if he views the world like you, Only if he loves like you. Thou shall not kill. Unless in times of war. In ruthless bloodshed at his command. Our nation under god. Thou shall not commit adultery, Yet the bible is littered with rape. Religion only causes dispute, For it is not our right to insert our beliefs where they do not belong. Is it God’s gift to a young rape victim To carry the child of her attacker? Is that God’s will? I know it is none of my concern. I don’t understand religion. I don’t understand God. I don’t understand hate. I don’t understand discrimination. Yet, sometimes I want to put my faith in him. But I can’t bring myself to deny the facts. And I can’t subject myself to confinement. I prefer to follow my own moral rules. I try to be the best person I can, But on my own terms. I don’t need a church to guide me. I put my faith in the spirit of the world. Because I understand the moon, I understand the trees and the grass. I can feel the wind through my hair. I can see the soils pain when its companions Are ripped up and sliced down. I can relate to the river, How it flows, never on a set course, always changing. And the animals. I know the animals because I am them. We tend to forget that. If it we lost our brains, We would be pushed to the bottom of the food chain, Quicker than we climbed up it. I am not above any other creature that walks the earth. If anything they are above me. They have no corruption. They rely on the simplicity of their instincts. Our brains will kill the world. We will starve it until it has nothing left to give. We will abuse it, until it cannot handle the torment. We will suck the life out of every creature, Every tree, every river, every stream, Every valley and every grassland. We will take what we want, Blinded by our ability to do so. And there is no stopping it. We have sunk our teeth into the burning heart of the world. We have opened a wound, And we are watching it fester. We can fight the infection, Slow down the process, Drag it out for another hundred years. But the diagnosis is inevitable. Death is sure to come.
