Faith

Life is cruel The white men came today They killed my mother, as she was pregnant My father did not stop them We were taken from our homeland Taken to board a ship We traveled for what seemed like forever All but I of my family died Harsh, undeserving, crude, foul, unspeakable Horrors occurred and resulted in death The pain was unbearable My family gone, homeland stolen, life taken I was lost in this world The dock was full of rich, fat, rude men All were waving greens at our masters We were being traded I was sold Nothing like this has ever happened to me I didn’t know what to do What was happening to me In this new world I was nothing No one really cared about me No one looked out for me I had no money, no family, no life Everything I knew was gone and destroyed Faith Faith Faith Perhaps the one good thing that happened I learned about Our Savior He came and saved me He told me stories of love, which I had not known here He promised me eternal life if I just believed in him He told me nothing could harm me as long as he was with me He protected me when the white men came and beat me When they starved me When they raped me When they killed my only friend When they broke my bones God stayed with me and helped me
